Besides wishing I had gotten one on my last day in Los Angeles to make it in time for my flight, I've gotten a few lately by way of other means.
Firstly, my 365 project has been pretty tough. Not sure if the wake up call is realizing that I have so little time to do things for myself or if this idea wasn't such a good one. Maybe I bit off more than I can chew at this point. I'm also struggling to find my creative juices with this project. So far, the photos I have aren't anything to brag about and they seem to just be what I can snag to say "I did it." It would be preferred if the photos made were more cohesive and had some sort of theme or vision. Simply, I'm struggling.
The second wake up call was about grad school. It wasn't necessarily the way I would have liked it to happen but it happened none the less. I have a craving to learn and this wake up call was enough to get me thinking that I should finish what I started and get my butt back to school.

Last Summer Wedding
It was August and no joke, it had to be the hottest day of the summer in New Hampshire. I say about 98 degrees and 100% humidity. So hot in fact, that sitting in the back of a Jeep Wrangler with suit coat off and cruising about 45-50 mph, I still managed to sweat through my shirts. Yes, shirts, plural.
There was no air conditioning in the chapel which led to the shortest ceremony I have ever been a part of. It had to be about 10 minutes, tops! Walk in, "I do" and out we went.

If you take a look from the inside you can probably tell that there was no air in the building and that a giant piece of plaster is missing from the wall. Surprised the power was working really. Man, did I love this place. I could have stayed there all day just shooting the chapel. Anyway, the place is privately owned. The bride had to sweep and dust the place out the day before because the chapel isn't used anymore. Its just kind of there, on the side of the road, by itself.

Some of my favorite detail shots from my girlfriend's brother's wedding.

I will be adding more to this flickr collection soon.
Speaking of flickr - why can't I find a plugin that's not for wordpress? Anyone? Back to this in a later post.

slacker

I have definitely been slacking with photos in the last year and a half. I've been putting off a lot of things in that time. Personally as well as professionally. I apologize, mostly, to myself.
I've gone through a lot of changes in the last year and a half. I moved half way across the country (U.S.) for the start of my career. I knew no one and put myself in debt going through the change.
Photos are a passion for me and I couldn't be more content doing what I do. I get to dabble in video, web, audio and have even become somewhat of the know-it-all regarding presentations.
Yes, its great to deal with multimedia at work and it fulfills all my techy needs. I get to order, figure out and play with tons of cool gear but still something is missing. I miss taking photos for me. I miss the excitement and nervousness of a photo assignment, being on deadline and remembering the sites and sounds of the activities going on around me.
Things are different when you're on deadline. You notice more. You pay attention to anything that may be worth capturing. You pay attention to light, the way it moves, wraps and touches people and things.
I love the feeling of the camera in my hands and lugging around the equipment. I love mashing my eye to the eyecup and seeing the world through sharp, yet distorting lenses. I love hitting the shutter and knowing I got the shot. I love hitting the shutter and not knowing I have the shot.
There are so many things I can blame my lack of shooting on. I won't blame it on anyone or anything but me.
